President-elect Donald Trump has suggested that Canada and Mexico should become states of the United States if they continue to receive significant financial subsidies from the U.S. Trump highlighted that the U.S. is subsidizing Canada to the tune of over $100 billion annually and Mexico by nearly $300 billion. He made these remarks during an interview on 'Meet the Press,' questioning the rationale behind these subsidies and proposing that if the U.S. is to continue providing financial support, these countries might as well become the 51st and 52nd states of the nation. Trump also mentioned his use of tariffs to influence international relations, citing a conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
