VisitTrump's Inauguration Moved Indoors to Capitol Rotunda Amid Record Cold
Jan 17, 2025, 05:07 PM
President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony, scheduled for Monday, will be moved indoors due to dangerously cold temperatures forecasted for Washington, D.C. Trump announced, "I have ordered the Inauguration Address, in addition to prayers and other speeches, to be delivered in the United States Capitol Rotunda, as was used by Ronald Reagan in 1985, also because of very cold weather." Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance are expected to be sworn in inside the Capitol Rotunda. Officials are also considering relocating the inaugural parade and other celebrations, potentially to the Capital One Arena. The decision marks the first time since 1985, when President Ronald Reagan's second inauguration was moved indoors due to frigid temperatures, that an inauguration has been relocated due to extreme weather conditions. Temperatures in the nation's capital are projected to be among the coldest in Inauguration Day history, with forecasts predicting a high of 24 degrees Fahrenheit and wind chills as low as 6 to 10 degrees. Dignitaries and guests will be accommodated inside the Capitol for the ceremony.
