This recognition comes amidst widespread protests against the Maduro regime, with Trump asserting that these leaders 'must stay safe and alive.' Additionally, Canada has also recognized González as the winner of the Venezuelan elections, with Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly reiterating support for the opposition. The situation in Venezuela remains tense as both González and current President Nicolás Maduro have claimed victory in the elections and intend to assume the presidency on January 10.
