Trump Reappoints Peter Navarro, After Prison Term, as Senior Trade Counselor

President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Peter Navarro as his Senior Counselor for Trade and Manufacturing. Navarro, an economist and former White House advisor, is known for his strong advocacy of "Buy American, Hire American" policies. During Trump's first term, Navarro was instrumental in renegotiating trade deals like NAFTA and KORUS. The appointment comes less than five months after Navarro's release from federal prison, where he served a four-month sentence for contempt of Congress after defying a subpoena from the January 6 House Select Committee. Trump praised Navarro, stating, "During my First Term, few were more effective or tenacious than Peter in enforcing my two sacred rules, Buy American, Hire American." He also commented that Navarro was "treated horribly by the Deep State" and expressed confidence that he would help advance the administration's manufacturing, tariff, and trade agendas.
