VisitTrump Names Musk, Ramaswamy to Lead DOGE; Greene Targets NPR in $500 Billion Cut Plan
Nov 24, 2024, 05:12 PM
President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), aiming to slash federal spending by $500 billion and reduce government waste. The pair have outlined plans to cut federal regulations and reduce the federal workforce by up to 25% by targeting inefficiency, bureaucracy, and wasteful spending within federal agencies. Their strategy includes rolling back illegitimate regulations and ending remote work, which they warn could lead to many resignations. They plan to leverage recent Supreme Court rulings, such as those affecting the Chevron deference, to decrease the power of federal agencies. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) will chair a new subcommittee within the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, also called DOGE, to work closely with Musk and Ramaswamy. Greene has indicated that the committee will look into defunding government-funded media programs like NPR and PBS, which she claims "spread nothing but Democrat propaganda," as well as defunding sanctuary cities and other wasteful spending. The initiative aims to restore accountability and streamline the federal government, but questions remain about how much Congress will allow DOGE to implement these changes.
