VisitTrump Honors 13 Fallen Soldiers on Abbey Gate Anniversary, Highlights $85 Billion Equipment Loss
Aug 26, 2024, 12:40 PM
On the third anniversary of the Abbey Gate terrorist attack in Afghanistan, former President Donald Trump paid tribute to the 13 American service members who lost their lives during the chaotic withdrawal orchestrated by the Biden-Harris administration. The attack, which occurred on August 26, 2021, at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, marked the deadliest day for U.S. forces in Afghanistan in over a decade and also resulted in the deaths of over 100 Afghans. Critics, including Trump, have repeatedly blamed Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden for the withdrawal's failures, citing Harris's involvement in the decision-making process. The withdrawal also resulted in the abandonment of $85 billion worth of military equipment to the Taliban. Trump honored the fallen soldiers, including Jared Schmitz, by laying a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery, emphasizing the need to remember their sacrifice. Additionally, 18 service members were wounded in the attack.
