VisitTrump Calls for Investigation as Pollster Ann Selzer Retires After 16-Point Iowa Poll Miss
Nov 17, 2024, 04:26 PM
Ann Selzer, a prominent Iowa pollster renowned for conducting the Iowa Poll for the Des Moines Register, has announced her retirement from election polling to pursue other ventures and opportunities. She informed the Des Moines Register over a year ago of her decision not to renew her contract after 2024. Her final Iowa poll, released just before the election, predicted that Kamala Harris would lead Donald Trump by 3 percentage points in Iowa. However, Trump won the state by 13 points, resulting in a 16-point discrepancy between the poll and the actual results. Selzer, once considered the 'gold standard' of polling, acknowledged the irony of her retirement following a significant polling miss, stating, "Would I have liked to make this announcement after a final poll aligned with Election Day results? Of course. It's ironic that it's just the opposite." In response to the inaccurate poll, President Trump has called for an investigation into Selzer and the Des Moines Register.
