Trump Administration Ends TPS for 600,000 Venezuelans, Citing Crimes by Some Migrants
The Trump administration has revoked an extension of deportation protections that President Biden had granted to more than 600,000 Venezuelans in the United States, citing crimes committed by a small number of migrants. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced that the administration is ending the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuelan migrants, reversing the Biden administration's decision to extend the program until October 2026. The cancellation of the extension could open up these Venezuelans to deportation in the coming months. A DHS official argued that the last-minute extension by the Biden administration appeared to be a way to tie the hands of Trump officials, stating, "We are not going to follow through on what he did to tie our hands."
