Jun 23, 2024, 05:50 PM
The Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh held a groundbreaking ceremony on Sunday for a new structure in Squirrel Hill that will house a memorial and a museum dedicated to combating American antisemitism. The event marks a significant step towards healing for the community following the tragic 2018 mass shooting that claimed 11 lives. Dignitaries including Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro attended the ceremony, which featured the sounding of the shofar. The project, which received $1 million in funding, aims to serve as a beacon of resilience and a tribute to the victims of the attack. Rabbi Jeffrey Myers and other community leaders emphasized the importance of this new chapter for the Pittsburgh community.
