VisitTRAI Launches Stringent Initiative to Curb Spam Calls and Texts by October 1, 2024, to Disconnect 2.17 Crore Connections
Sep 30, 2024, 04:51 AM
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has launched a stringent initiative to curb spam calls and texts. The new system aims to better monitor and regulate telemarketers by moving them to a new system and tightening regulations. TRAI has mandated that all Internet Access Providers block any SMS traffic containing unwhitelisted URLs, APKs, or OTT links by October 1, 2024. Over 3,000 registered senders have already whitelisted more than 70,000 links to comply with the new regulations. Additionally, the Telecom Ministry has informed a high-level inter-ministerial panel that it will disconnect around 2.17 crore mobile connections taken on forged documents or misused in cybercrime.
