American swimmer Gretchen Walsh set a new Olympic record in the women's 100m butterfly semifinals at the Paris 2024 Olympics, clocking in at 55.38 seconds. This impressive performance broke the previous record held by Sarah Sjostrom. Walsh's time was just 0.20 seconds off her own world record of 55.18 seconds. In the final, held on Sunday night, fellow American Torri Huske won the gold medal with a time of 55.59 seconds, narrowly beating Walsh, who secured the silver with a time of 55.63 seconds. Zhang Yufei of China took the bronze with a time of 56.21 seconds. The race was a significant achievement for Team USA, marking a 1-2 finish in the event, with only 40 milliseconds separating the top two swimmers.
