Torres, a two-time All-Star, is expected to play second base for the Tigers. In the 2024 season, he recorded a batting average of .257, with 15 home runs, 65 walks, and 136 strikeouts over 154 games. This signing marks the end of Torres' tenure with the Yankees, where he had been a durable player, appearing in 158 and 154 games in the previous two seasons. The Tigers' roster now features multiple infielders, including Colt Keith, who is anticipated to transition to first base following Torres' signing. The team has designated left-handed pitcher Bailey Horn for assignment to accommodate the new addition, bringing their 40-man roster to the maximum limit of 40 players.
