VisitTicketmaster Data Breach Compromises 560 Million Customers Globally; Linked to Live Nation
May 31, 2024, 04:36 PM
The Department of Home Affairs in Australia is engaging with Ticketmaster following a major data breach that compromised the personal details of over 560 million customers globally. The breach, allegedly carried out by the ShinyHunters hacking group, has resulted in personal information being sold on the dark web. The Australian government cyber security office is also involved in addressing the claims. Approximately 2 million Australians are believed to be affected. The hackers are reportedly demanding a $500,000 ransom to prevent further sale of the data. Despite the severity of the breach, Ticketmaster and its parent company, Live Nation, have yet to issue an official statement. The breach is linked to unauthorized activity within a third-party cloud database environment. Additionally, a proposed class action claims Ticketmaster acted negligently in failing to protect consumers' personally identifiable information. The hackers reportedly accessed Ticketmaster's AWS instance via a compromised MSP.
