VisitThom Yorke, Julianne Moore, and 11,500 Creatives Protest Unlicensed Use of Work to Train Generative AI
Oct 22, 2024, 05:31 PM
Over 11,500 actors, musicians, authors, and other creative professionals, including Radiohead's Thom Yorke, actress Julianne Moore, ABBA's Björn Ulvaeus, and novelist Kazuo Ishiguro, have signed an open letter condemning the unlicensed use of their work to train generative AI systems. The letter states, 'The unlicensed use of creative works for training generative AI is a major, unjust threat to the livelihoods of the people behind those works, and must not be permitted.' Organized by Ed Newton-Rex, the statement has garnered support from organizations such as Penguin Random House, Universal Music Group, the British Phonographic Industry, the Recording Industry Association of America, and SAG-AFTRA. Other notable signatories include Kevin Bacon, Robert Smith of The Cure, and Rosario Dawson. The Human Artistry Campaign is rallying creators to ensure AI benefits, not obstructs, their craft.
