VisitTexas and GOP-Led States Purge Voter Rolls, Claim 6,500 Noncitizens Removed
Oct 15, 2024, 10:32 AM
Leaders in several GOP-led states, including Tennessee, Alabama, Ohio, and Texas, have used the threat of large-scale noncitizen voting to justify mass purges from their voter rolls. On October 13, in Texas, at least nine U.S. citizens across three counties were incorrectly labeled as noncitizens or removed from voter rolls for not responding to letters questioning their citizenship. Governor Greg Abbott claimed on October 15 that Texas removed 6,500 noncitizens from its voter rolls, a number that was likely inflated. These actions have contributed to unsubstantiated Republican allegations that noncitizens plan to cast ballots en masse to sway elections for Democrats.
