VisitTexas AG Ken Paxton Sues Dr. May C. Lau for Violating Gender Transition Ban
Oct 17, 2024, 05:55 PM
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against Dr. May C. Lau, a pediatrician at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, for allegedly providing prohibited 'gender transition' treatments to minors. The lawsuit claims that Dr. Lau prescribed testosterone to at least 21 natal girls under the age of 18, in violation of Senate Bill 14, which has been in effect since September 2023. Senate Bill 14, upheld by the Texas Supreme Court in June 2024, outlaws medical procedures and treatments aimed at transitioning a child's biological sex. The lawsuit also alleges that Dr. Lau engaged in deceptive trade practices by misleading pharmacies and insurance providers about the nature of the prescriptions. Attorney General Ken Paxton emphasized that this legal action is part of a broader effort to enforce Texas law prohibiting gender-affirming care for minors.
