Technicians tested the radiation level of debris from inside a damaged reactor at Japan’s Fukushima plant on Tuesday after it was removed by a robot for the first time since the nuclear power station was hit by a tsunami in 2011. TEPCO successfully extracted a sample of fuel debris from the Fukushima Daiichi reactor, as reported by Kyodo on November 7. This marks the first trial to remove fuel and metal debris at the bottom of the plant, with only 3 grams removed. The data from this trial will be essential in analyzing how to retrieve the remaining 880 tons of debris.
