VisitTennessee Wins First Baseball National Title, Defeats Texas A&M 6-5 in College World Series
Jun 25, 2024, 02:35 AM
The Tennessee Volunteers have won their first national championship in baseball, defeating Texas A&M 6-5 in the decisive third game of the College World Series. The victory marks Tennessee's first NCAA Championship in baseball and the first national title for the program since 1999. The Volunteers built a five-run lead, with key contributions including a leadoff homer from Christian Moore and another home run from Dylan Dreiling, who went deep for the third time in three games. Late two-run homers from Dylan Dreiling and Cal Stark were crucial, while Drew Beam and three relievers held down the Aggies. Tennessee's win also makes them the first No. 1 overall seed to win the NCAA Tournament since Miami in 1999. The SEC continues its dominance in college baseball, with Tennessee becoming the fifth different SEC team to win the national title in the past five College World Series. The team was led by head coach Tony Vitello.
