Telegram Partners Exclusively With TON for Mini Apps, Serving 950 Million Users Via TON Connect
Jan 21, 2025, 04:07 PM
Telegram has entered into an exclusivity agreement with The Open Network (TON) Foundation, designating TON as the sole blockchain infrastructure for its mini-app platform. This partnership will require all Telegram mini apps, including games, to utilize TON and its wallet connect protocol, TON Connect, for any blockchain-related functionalities. The move effectively prohibits other blockchain networks such as Sui and Aptos from being integrated into Telegram's mini apps. The agreement is set to benefit from Telegram's vast user base of over 950 million monthly active users, aiming to enhance TON's reach and influence in the blockchain space. Developers have until February 21, 2025, to migrate their apps to TON to maintain cryptocurrency functionality. The TON Foundation will offer grants up to $50,000 to support this transition, depending on the audience size of the migrating projects.
