Taylor Swift's new album 'The Tortured Poets Department' has achieved a historic sales milestone, selling 1.4 million copies in its first day in the U.S. This makes it the top-selling album of 2024 and sets it on track to become only the second album by a female artist to open with over 2 million units in its first week, a record currently held by Adele's '25' which debuted with 3.48 million units in 2015. This release also marks Swift's largest-ever pure sales week in the U.S., surpassing her previous record set by '1989 (Taylor's Version)', which sold 1.359 million copies in its first week last year.
