VisitTaylor Fritz Defeats Zverev 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 to Reach First Grand Slam Semifinal at US Open
Sep 3, 2024, 09:23 PM
American tennis player Taylor Fritz has reached his first-ever Grand Slam semifinal at the US Open. Fritz defeated Alexander Zverev in four sets with scores of 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, and 7-6. This victory marks a significant milestone in Fritz's career, as he had previously lost to Zverev in the first round of the 2013 Boys' US Open, making this win a form of revenge. Fritz is now the fourth active American man to reach a Grand Slam semifinal, joining Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul, and Ben Shelton. Fritz's win also makes him the oldest American in the Open Era to reach his maiden Men's Singles semifinal at the US Open at the age of 26 years and 310 days. He will await the winner of the match between Frances Tiafoe and Grigor Dimitrov for his next challenge. Notably, this victory was Fritz's 6th top 10 win of 2024, and he had only a 38% chance to win the match.
