VisitTaiwan and China Reach Agreement Over Fishermen's Deaths Near Quemoy and Kinmen
Jul 30, 2024, 03:32 AM
The Red Cross Society of Jinjiang in East China's Fujian Province will send staff to accompany the family members involved in the fatal boat incident that occurred on February 14 to Kinmen. More than five months after two Chinese fishermen drowned following a chasing episode with Taiwan’s coast guard near Kinmen, Taipei and Beijing announced that both sides have reached a consensus on the incident. However, details of the agreement were not shared. The agreement was reached after months of negotiations, signaling a potential easing of tensions between the two sides. The State Council Taiwan Affairs Office confirmed the deal, which also involved resolving the crisis over the deaths near Quemoy.
