VisitTaiwan and China Reach Agreement Over Fishermen's Deaths Near Kinmen in February

More than five months after two Chinese fishermen drowned following a February boat incident with Taiwan’s coast guard near Kinmen, Taipei and Beijing announced today that both sides have reached a consensus on the fatal incident but they didn’t share details. Officials from Taipei and Beijing reached a settlement of an incident earlier this year that left two Chinese fishermen dead and led to a major shift in how China handles the Taiwanese islets just off its coast. The bodies of the two fishermen were returned to the mainland on Tuesday, along with a detained fishing boat.
