Dec 7, 2024, 08:54 PM
Syrian rebels have captured the city of Homs, Syria's third-largest city and once dubbed the 'capital of the revolution,' according to multiple sources. The rebels began by seizing control of Homs Central Prison and al-Balouneh prison, freeing over 3,500 prisoners held inside. Celebrations erupted around the city's iconic clock tower, a symbol of resistance since 2011. Reports indicate that security personnel were fleeing from Homs on motorcycles. In addition to Homs, opposition forces have reportedly liberated several other prisons, including Saasaa prison, Adra Central Prison, Qaboun Prison, Qatana Prison, and Sednaya Prison near Damascus, releasing numerous detainees. The rebels are now advancing toward the capital, Damascus.
