A gunman believed to be a Syrian national opened fire near the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred at approximately 8:34 a.m. local time. The gunman was injured in an exchange of fire with the Lebanese army and was subsequently taken into custody and transported to a hospital. One embassy staffer was reportedly injured during the attack. The U.S. Embassy confirmed that there were no casualties among its staff and thanked the quick reaction of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), Internal Security Forces (ISF), and the embassy security team. Investigations are currently underway, and security forces are searching for any potential accomplices.
