VisitSupreme Court Takes Suo Motu Notice of Delhi Coaching Centre Basement Deaths, Issues Safety Regulations

The Supreme Court of India has taken suo motu cognisance of the recent deaths at a Delhi IAS coaching centre. The court has issued notices to the Centre and the Delhi government, expressing concerns over the safety norms in coaching centres. The incident has prompted the court to demand responses from the Centre, Delhi Government, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to show cause. The Supreme Court emphasized that no institute should be allowed to operate unless they comply with safety norms, highlighting the gravity of the situation where coaching centres are playing with the lives of aspirants from different parts of the country. Additionally, a lower court has rejected the bail plea of the coaching centre co-owners and transferred the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
