VisitSupreme Court Rules No Systemic Breach in NEET-UG 2024 Paper Leak, No Retest, Criticizes NTA
Aug 2, 2024, 05:54 AM
The Supreme Court of India has ruled that the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak was not a systemic breach but was limited to Patna and Hazaribagh. The court refrained from ordering a retest, stating that the integrity of the exam was not compromised on a larger scale. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested 40 individuals, including several medical students, in connection with the paper leak. The CBI has also filed its first chargesheet against 13 accused, including four candidates, one engineer, and two masterminds, who have been booked under criminal breach of trust and conspiracy. The Supreme Court criticized the National Testing Agency (NTA) for its inconsistent handling of the situation, referring to it as 'flip-flops,' and called for the restructuring of the examination process. A committee has been proposed to enhance the security of the NEET examination, with a report due by September 30. The court emphasized the need for technological advancements, improved identity checks, and CCTV monitoring at exam centers.
