Supreme Court Resumes Hearing on Suo Motu Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case, CBI to Submit Fresh Report by Sept 17

The Supreme Court of India has resumed hearings on the suo motu rape and murder case of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. A three-judge bench, led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, is overseeing the case. During the session, the Court reviewed the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) status report on the investigation. The CJI demanded clarification on the timing of the unnatural death registration, which was confirmed to be at 2:55 PM. The Court has directed the CBI to submit a fresh status report by September 17, 2024. The case has drawn significant attention, especially following the recent 'Reclaim The Night' protest march.
