VisitSupreme Court Grants Bail to Former Tamil Nadu Minister V Senthil Balaji in Cash-for-Jobs Scam
Sep 26, 2024, 05:30 AM
The Supreme Court of India has granted bail to former Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji in a money laundering case linked to a 2014 cash-for-jobs scam. The decision was made considering the long duration of his incarceration and the potential delay in conducting the trial. Senthil Balaji was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in June 2023 after receiving approval from the Supreme Court. The court, led by Justice AS Oka, emphasized that denial of bail and delay in prosecution cannot coexist. Following the verdict, supporters of Senthil Balaji celebrated in Karur by bursting crackers and distributing sweets. The DMK welcomed the verdict.
