VisitSupreme Court Grants Bail to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in 2021-22 Excise Policy Case
Sep 13, 2024, 09:16 AM
The Supreme Court has granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the 2021-22 Delhi excise policy corruption case. The court criticized the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for unjustly prolonging Kejriwal's detention, stating that prolonged incarceration amounts to an unjust deprivation of liberty. Kejriwal's bail was approved on a bond of Rs 10 lakh with two sureties. Following the court's decision, Kejriwal was released from Tihar Jail, where he was greeted by AAP leaders and supporters, including Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. The judgment, delivered by a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan, marks a significant relief for Kejriwal amid the ongoing investigation into the alleged excise policy scam and a related money laundering case.
