VisitSupreme Court Censures Naidu, Says 'Keep Gods Out of Politics' in Tirupati Laddoo Row
Sep 30, 2024, 08:10 AM
The Supreme Court of India is hearing pleas regarding allegations of adulteration in the preparation of Tirupati laddoos, the famous prasad from the Tirumala temple. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has accused the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government of using adulterated ghee in the laddoos, amid rising political tensions between the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). The Supreme Court questioned the evidence supporting these claims, noting that the lab report on the laddoos was unclear and had been ready since July. Censuring Naidu for going to the press with the allegations, the court emphasized that "Gods should be kept away from politics." The petitioner has requested a court-monitored probe, expressing concerns about the fairness of the investigation. The Supreme Court is considering shifting the probe to an independent agency.
