VisitSunday's Paris 2024 Triathlon Training Canceled Due to Seine Pollution
Jul 28, 2024, 10:23 AM
The first training swim for triathletes at the Paris 2024 Olympics, scheduled for Sunday, was canceled due to pollution in the River Seine. Heavy rainfall over the past two days has significantly impacted the water quality, rendering it unsafe for swimming. Test results released on Friday indicated that the water quality was slightly below the standards required for swimming. Despite a $1.5 billion effort by France to clean the Seine ahead of the Olympics, the recent torrential rains have caused pollution levels to rise. Paris 2024 organizers and World Triathlon confirmed the cancellation, citing insufficient guarantees of water safety. Officials remain confident that triathletes will be able to swim in the Seine during the actual events later this week.
