VisitSuncor Shuts Down 215,000 BPD Firebag Oil Sands Project Due to Wildfire Risk
Jul 4, 2024, 05:35 PM
Suncor Energy has shut down its Firebag oil sands project in northern Alberta as a precaution due to a nearby wildfire. The wildfire is burning about eight kilometres away from the site. The project, which produces 215,000 barrels per day, has been closed to ensure the safety of the area. The Alberta government confirmed the shutdown on July 4 and stated that only essential personnel are allowed on-site as the wildfire continues to burn out of control, according to an Alberta minister.
