Jan 1, 2025, 03:12 PM
The Sugar Bowl, a College Football Playoff quarterfinal game between Georgia and Notre Dame, is set to proceed as scheduled at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Wednesday night, despite a tragic incident earlier in the day. A driver in a pickup truck plowed through crowds on Bourbon Street, killing 10 people and injuring at least 35. New Orleans Police Commissioner Anne Kirkpatrick confirmed that officers would work to ensure safety at the Sugar Bowl. The attack occurred around 3:15 a.m. CT in the French Quarter, a popular area for New Year's Eve celebrations. The suspect was killed by police after exiting the vehicle and engaging in a shootout, during which two officers were shot but are in stable condition. The FBI is leading the investigation into the incident, which is being treated as an act of terrorism. Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley expressed devastation over the event and stated that the committee is in ongoing discussions with authorities at various levels.
