VisitSudan's RSF Mistakenly Downs Own UAE Plane; Russian Crew Killed
Oct 21, 2024, 05:17 PM
On October 21, Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) mistakenly shot down an Ilyushin Il-76 cargo plane, registered as EX-76011, in the Malha region of North Darfur. The aircraft, operated by UAE-based 'Airline Transport Incorporation FZC' and possibly linked to New Way Cargo, was reportedly delivering military aid to the RSF. The RSF confirmed they had mistaken the plane for an enemy Antonov bomber used by Sudanese military forces. The downed plane had a Russian crew, and at least one Russian national was killed in the incident. The plane was transporting engineering aid to Chad. The Russian Embassy in Sudan is verifying the details with local authorities.
