VisitStora Enso Halts Harvesting After Thousands of Endangered Freshwater Pearl Mussel Deaths

Finnish forestry company Stora Enso has suspended some of its harvesting activities following an environmental incident that resulted in the death of thousands of endangered freshwater pearl mussels at one of its sites. The cost of killing a protected freshwater pearl mussel is set at €589 ($659) each under Finnish law. The company has launched numerous measures in response to the environmental violation in Finland.
