VisitSpain to Recognize Palestinian State Next Tuesday, May 28, Urges EU to Back ICJ
May 27, 2024, 07:02 AM
Spain will officially recognize the state of Palestine next Tuesday, May 28, joining 143 other countries that have already done so. Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares announced the decision, describing it as 'justice for the Palestinian people.' The Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority expressed hope that this recognition by Spain, along with Ireland and Norway, would encourage other European countries to follow suit. Additionally, Albares stated that he will ask the other 26 European Union member states to issue official backing to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and take steps to ensure Israel respects its decisions.
