VisitSpaceX Proposes Incorporating Starbase, Home to 3,400 Employees, as a New City in Cameron County
Dec 13, 2024, 12:05 AM
SpaceX has initiated a process to officially incorporate its Starbase site in South Texas into a new city. The company sent a letter to Cameron County officials requesting an election to turn Starbase, where SpaceX builds and launches its Starship rockets, into an incorporated city. This move is aimed at facilitating the growth of the community to support the rapid development and manufacturing of Starship. The area, located near Boca Chica Beach on the southern tip of Texas in the Rio Grande Valley, has been home to over 3,400 full-time SpaceX employees and contractors. The proposal for incorporation comes after Elon Musk previously expressed the idea in 2021, and it follows his decision to move the headquarters of SpaceX and his social media company X from California to Texas earlier this year. Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr. has not yet responded to the request.
