VisitSpaceX Petitions to Incorporate Starbase, Texas, as City and Relocate Headquarters to Gulf Coast Site
Dec 13, 2024, 07:55 AM
Elon Musk's SpaceX is seeking to officially incorporate Starbase, Texas, as a city along the Gulf Coast and plans to move its headquarters there. On December 12, 2024, SpaceX General Manager Kathy Lueders submitted a letter to Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr., requesting an election to determine whether Starbase should become an incorporated city. This move aims to formalize the community around the SpaceX launch site at Boca Chica Beach, near Brownsville, Texas, where the company builds and launches its Starship rockets. Over 3,400 full-time employees and contractors work at the Starbase site. Musk had first expressed this idea in 2021, stating, "Creating the city of Starbase, Texas," and now it is progressing towards realization. Texas Governor Greg Abbott expressed support for the initiative, stating, "Proud to have you in Texas!" The incorporation would potentially streamline operations and support the growing number of SpaceX employees in the area. The proposal requires local authorities' approval and compliance with state laws before an election can be held.
