VisitSouth Korea's NSC Decides to Suspend 2018 Military Agreement with North Korea Over Trash Balloons
Jun 3, 2024, 06:02 AM
South Korea has decided to fully suspend a military agreement with North Korea that was signed in 2018 to ease tensions between the two countries. The decision comes after North Korea launched hundreds of balloons carrying trash into South Korean territory. The suspension of the agreement, known as the Sept 19 military agreement, was confirmed by the presidential office and reported by Yonhap news. The agreement was originally signed by the defense chiefs of both Koreas during the 2018 inter-Korean summit in Pyongyang to halt all hostile acts across the border. The National Security Council (NSC) made the decision to fully suspend the pact.
