VisitSolana Launches ZK Compression on Devnet to Cut Storage Costs by 5000x
Jul 24, 2024, 03:59 PM
Solana has launched ZK Compression on its Devnet, aiming to significantly reduce data storage costs. This new feature allows developers to compress PDA accounts and SPL tokens, potentially lowering rent costs by 100x to 1000x. The technology involves state compression, where ledger history is managed by archival nodes and account state is managed in the memory of validator nodes. Helius Labs has fully integrated indexer support for ZK Compression into Light's development CLI. A simple two-step migration guide from zkTestnet is available for developers. The initiative, described as 'brick by brick,' is expected to accelerate Solana's adoption and make it more cost-effective for developers, potentially making storage 5000x cheaper.
