Dec 13, 2024, 04:26 AM
A small plane crashed on Interstate 684 in Westchester County, New York, on Thursday night, resulting in the death of one person and leaving another in serious condition. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. near Exit 2 in Harrison, close to the Westchester County Airport. The aircraft, identified as a single-engine TECNAM P2008, had departed from Linden Airport in New Jersey and was en route to Westchester County Airport when the pilot reported engine issues. The crash caused an aviation gas spill, which the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is addressing. The highway was closed at Exit 2 northbound and Exit 3 southbound, causing significant traffic disruptions. The plane was owned by Altisky Leasing One LLC, of Smyrna, Tennessee. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the incident alongside the New York State Police.
