VisitSmall Plane Crash in Gramado, Brazil Kills 10, Injures 17; No Black Box on Piper PA-42-1000
Dec 23, 2024, 01:13 PM
A small aircraft crashed in Gramado, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of all 10 passengers on board. The victims were members of the same family, including the pilot, businessman Luiz Claudio Galeazzi, his wife, three daughters, his mother-in-law, his sister-in-law, her husband, and their two children. The plane, a Piper PA-42-1000 Cheyenne 400 with nine places, manufactured in 1990, took off from Canela and was en route to Jundiaí, São Paulo, when it collided with a building's chimney and crashed into a furniture store and a nearby inn. The aircraft did not have a black box, complicating the investigation into the cause of the accident, which is being conducted by the Brazilian Air Force's Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa). The crash also injured 17 people on the ground, with two women in serious condition due to severe burns. The retrieval of the victims' bodies and aircraft debris was completed by Monday morning, with identification processes involving DNA and dental records ongoing.
