VisitSix Indians Released from Russian Army Camps After PM Modi's Intervention; 45 Discharged So Far
Sep 12, 2024, 10:54 AM
At least six Indian nationals enlisted with the Russian Army have been released from their camps on the Russia-Ukraine border. This development follows Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's personal intervention with President Vladimir Putin during his visit to Moscow in July. The first batch of six Indians returned to India last night on Aeroflot Flight SU232. A total of 45 Indian nationals have been discharged so far, with efforts ongoing to release around 50 more. The Indian Foreign Ministry is actively engaged in talks with Russia to facilitate these releases. Some of the Indian nationals, including those from Kerala, had given up their passports for lucrative salaries in the Russian Army and now wish to return after a recent death among their ranks. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that 10 Indians were discharged before the PM's visit.
