In a statement posted on Instagram, Cowell said he feels 'empty' following Payne's passing and described him as 'kind, funny, talented, thoughtful, and humble.' He added that Payne 'never forgot the fans' and that 'every tear I have shed is a memory of you.' Cowell, who formed One Direction on the UK's 'The X Factor' in 2010, also mentioned that Payne's son, Bear, 'will be so proud of everything you achieved.' Payne, aged 31, died in Argentina on Wednesday. Cowell reflected, 'You never really know how you feel about someone until a moment like this happens.'
