Nov 29, 2024, 12:42 AM
Silvia Pinal, the legendary Mexican actress known as the last diva of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema, died on November 28 at the age of 93 in Mexico City. Born in Guaymas, Sonora, Pinal was hospitalized on November 21 due to a urinary tract infection. Concerns over her health intensified as family members, including her daughter Sylvia Pasquel and granddaughter Stephanie Salas, gathered at the hospital. Despite hopes for her recovery, her condition worsened, and she passed away on Thursday. Pinal's prolific career spanned over 100 films, television shows, and theater productions. She was a muse to Spanish director Luis Buñuel, starring in his renowned films "Viridiana," "El ángel exterminador," and "Simón del desierto." Beyond her artistic contributions, Pinal was also involved in politics. Her death prompted tributes from cultural figures and institutions, including a minute of silence held by the Senate of the Republic. Sylvia Pasquel bid farewell to her mother, saying, "Your absence will hurt forever, but every memory of you will give me strength to move forward."
