VisitSifan Hassan Wins Marathon Gold, Sets Olympic Record After Bronze Medals
Aug 11, 2024, 08:54 AM
Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands achieved a remarkable feat at the Paris 2024 Olympics by winning the women's marathon. This victory came just days after she secured bronze medals in both the 5,000m and 10,000m races. Hassan's win in the marathon was marked by a dramatic sprint finish, where she edged out Tigst Assefa. This makes Hassan the first person in 40 years to compete in the 5,000m, 10,000m, and marathon at a single Olympics, and she is the second person to win medals in these three longest races at one Olympics, following Emil Zátopek in 1952. Her performance in the marathon set a new Olympic record.
