Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands achieved a remarkable feat at the Paris 2024 Olympics by winning the women's marathon with an Olympic record time of 2:22:55 on the final day of the Games. This victory adds to her collection of medals at these Games, having previously secured bronze in both the 5,000m and 10,000m events. Hassan's performance makes her the first person in 40 years to compete in all three events at a single Olympics, following Emil Zátopek's achievement in 1952. The marathon concluded with a thrilling sprint finish, where Hassan outpaced her competitors, including Tigst Assefa, who took silver, and Hellen Obiri, who claimed bronze. Morocco's Fatima Ezzahra Gardadi finished 11th with a time of 2:26:30.
