VisitSETI Institute Uses Nvidia AI for Real-Time Detection of Fast Radio Bursts
Oct 10, 2024, 01:09 PM
Researchers at the SETI Institute, in collaboration with the University of Oxford, have applied AI to the real-time detection of faint radio signals from space. This initiative uses dozens of radio telescopes to collect and store vast amounts of data. Additionally, the SETI Institute is conducting the world's first real-time search for fast radio bursts using an Nvidia AI-powered platform, which may indicate signs of extraterrestrial life. The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) and the Center for AstroPhysical Surveys (CAPS) are also transforming astronomy with the HEROIC service, funded by the NSF, which allows telescopes worldwide to coordinate in real-time to capture rare cosmic events such as supernovae and gravitational waves.
