VisitSenator Ted Cruz Wins Third Term, Defeats Ex-NFL Player Colin Allred in Expensive Texas Race
Nov 6, 2024, 03:27 AM
Incumbent Republican Senator Ted Cruz, who has held the seat since 2013, has won re-election to a third term in the US Senate, defeating Democratic challenger Representative Colin Allred, a former NFL player, in Texas. The closely contested race was one of the most expensive in the state's history, with over $160 million raised. Early returns showed a tight race, with Allred leading at times, but Cruz ultimately prevailed. The Associated Press called the race at 10:40 p.m. Cruz's victory means that Texas remains in Republican hands, and Democrats continue their search for a statewide win after more than 30 years.
